POWER UPDATE 2: Power restored to all suburbs!

No new information is forthcoming from Ekurhuleni

UPDATE: 6.30PM:

Power restored to all suburbs, according to ward councillor Jaco Terblanche.

He said a dedicated team is still on site.

“Individual homes should check their earth leakage to ensure it has not tripped. Please escalate to 086 054 3000 and WhatsApp reference number to me 083 413 2420,” he said.

UPDATE 4.50PM:

Power to Glen Marais, including Blue Gill, had been restored on Friday afternoon.

However, Aston Manor is off at the moment, said ward councillor Jaco Terblanche.

So far, the metro had released no new information about the power crisis on its social media  since 7.52pm on Thursday. Since the power went off seven days ago, not one press statement had been issued to Kempton Express., while energy department HOD Mark Wilson conducted at least two interviews with Radio 702.

Terblanche urged resident to assist with the following while the system is being stabilised:

• Keep consumption down

• Check earth leakage breakers for internal tripping

• Check if your neighbour has power and report it to the call centre if they are the only ones without power in the street

Original article:

Angry residents who are in their seventh day without power gathered at Glen Marais substation on Friday morning, demanding answers and threatening to burn tyres.

Although the HOD of the energy department Mark Wilson confirmed on radio on Friday morning that all power would be restored by noon today, it seems there could be another problem.

Reporting from the scene at the substation Kempton Express’ Puleng Sekabate said workers started digging up cables around 10am. According to her the metro was in the process of restoring power when they realised there was a cable fault. Diagnostic tests are being run to determine what the problem is.

Wilson admitted on radio that cable faults also prevented them from restoring power last night to parts of Allen Grove, Blue Gill and Glen Marais.

In the meantime the DA is escalating the matter to the premier of Gauteng, David Makhura.
