Local girl on Disney Cookabout show

Two cooktestants per episode compete against one another as they head out through the Cookabout Kitchen’s famous revolving door.

A 12-year-old Van Riebeeck Park girl is among eight contestants selected for the third season of Disney Cookabout.

Lateefah Bredenkamp, a Grade Eight learner at Edenglen High School, said she wanted to be part of the show to learn to cook better, meet new people and go on food adventures with them.

The show is a comedic adventure game-show that uses food preparation, cooking and outdoor exploration to showcase local ingredients and a fun-filled approach to healthy eating.

Chef Kirsten (Kirsten Mohamed) and her side-kick Sous Chef Mthunzi (Mthunzi Ntoyi) host the show and together they demonstrate to two dynamic groups of contestants how to create simple and appetising meals.

Two cooktestants per episode compete against one another as they head out through the Cookabout kitchen’s famous revolving door to locations in Gauteng and Mpumalanga, where their food adventure begins.

Once the ingredients are collected, the team is transported to the magical Cookabout Kitchen where anything can happen, from doors and drawers sliding open and appliances responding to secret voice commands.

Each week, the contestants will battle it out to take home the Silver Spoon as they carry out challenges at the various locations and attempt to create the tastiest dish in the kitchen – all in a race to be awarded the Cookabout Golden Trophy.

In addition, the winner will receive R50 000 for their school to go towards a worthwhile project.

Lateefah said her highlights on Disney Cookabout was all the interesting locations they got to visit. She is very social and the show’s interactive nature suited her personality.

She believes you eat with your eyes, therefore her presentation is always on point. In her spare time, she makes slime (her speciality) to play with and she swims and does ballet.

One day, she believes she will be a professional hockey player.

The show starts on Disney Channel on July 27.
