Norkem Park Primary School’s choir won the South African Talent Championship (SATCH) competition and have captivated audiences with their voices on many occasions.
The group was selected to perform as one of the vocal acts at the SATCH gala award ceremony. They have also been selected to perform in Dallas, Texas, in the United States of America in July next year.
This is the second time the talented ensemble has been selected for the international stage of the competition, having been selected to perform in Orlando, Florida, in 2017.
According to choir mistress Thandiwe Viriri, the choir learners have achieved much success in the time they have been competing. They were announced as the winners of the provincial round and were invited to enter the national round of the South African Talent Championships in Centurion during the September holidays.
Above being awarded gold medals in the junior vocals division, they were named as the overall winners where they scored 100 per cent for one of their performances.
The choir has competed at several eisteddfods, festivals and competitions this year, achieving very good results throughout.
Viriri, Dr Daleen Kriel (accompanist) and Tshepi Setati (administrator) are thrilled at the choir’s achievements.
“Norkem Park Primary School Choir remains a true reflection of hard work, perseverance and commitment. There can only be better things to come in the future. We would also like to thank our principal Shelly Anderson for her continuous support,” they said.
