There seems to be light at the end of the tunnel for Glen Marais residents who have been plagued with numerous water outages in recent weeks.
Ward councillor Jaco Terblanche on Tuesday afternoon said the metro plans to replace sections of three water pipelines in the suburb where regular bursts occur.
According to him the latest spate of water outages during the festive season was the result of no water pressure control from the Isando reservoir. Water was directly supplied to residents from Rand Water, bypassing the reservoir. Therefore, pressure could not be controlled and various pipes popped.
“The reservoir had been bypassed since middle December, most probably for repairs. The feed through the reservoir had been restored shortly after New Year and the system has stabilised, preventing further pipe bursts,” he said.
Terblanche said the replacement of sections of certain pipelines should start towards the end of February.
These sections are: Braambos up to Knoppiesdoring streets, a section on Rietfontein Road and on Monument Road from the Total Garage up to Veld Street.
