Kempies is top performing school in city

1 363 learners wrote the 2019 matric exams at Kempton’s six biggest high schools.

The six biggest high schools in Kempton Park, where more than 100 matrics at each school sat down for the National Senior Certificate exams last year, achieved an average pass rate of 89.7%.

The national pass rate was 81.3% and the Ekurhuleni North District (which includes Kempton Park) pass rate 88.8%.

Topping the list of best performing schools in the city as far as pass rates are concerned is Hoërskool Kempton Park (98.2%), followed by Hoërskool Jeugland (96.8%), Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School (90.5%), Norkem Park High School (90.2%), Hoërskool Birchleigh (87%) and Rhodesfield Technical High School (75.5%).

At these schools, 1 363 learners wrote the exams with 1 234 who passed. Of these learners 48 were progressed students.

The individual figures for these schools were (in order number of matrics who wrote the exam, number who passed in brackets and number of progressed learners, if any):

Hoërskool Kempton Park: 220 (216)

Hoërskool Jeugland: 188 (182)

Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School: 232 (210), three progressed learners

Norkem Park High School: 266 (240), 32 progressed learners

Hoërskool Birchleigh: 355 (309), seven progressed learners

Rhodesfield Technical High School: 102 (77), six progressed learners.
