Glen Marikana residents left unhappy, divided about relocation

Residents fear they will not be counted

UPDATE 11.40am:

Glen Marikana residents were left uphappy and divided after the MMC for human settlements, Clr Lesiba Mpya, left the meeting at the informal settlement on Sunday morning.

After his and other officials’ departure, small groups formed where residents raised their concerns. Some want to leave, while others want to stay at Glen Marikana until all the conditions set out in the court order have been met. They want a permanent stand before moving.

Mpya confirmed that the verification process of people living at Glen Marikana would go ahead on Monday. He asked residents to ensure that people not living at Glen Marikana should be prevented from coming forward to claim they had been living there.

Residents were also worried about the verification on Monday, as they have to go to work and could be left uncounted.
