Thembisa x25: Community leaders express their views

People need the land and our government has listened

Since the sod-turning ceremony by City of Ekurhuleni’s (CoE) executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina on February 25, the construction of the Thembisa x25 housing project has begun.

The Thembisan spoke with community leaders, such as local acting councillor of ward 89 Mbulaheni Makhadi who said this particular project will provide shelter for people who are living in poor conditions.

“This will eradicate the problem of flooding when rain comes. Since the area is populated, the streets will be wide open for police to navigate through after the completion of the project because now there is no open space for police cars to pass. Once we sort the 2-in-1 issue there is a provincial programme that will build RDP houses for those remaining in the area.”

Mbulaheni Makhadi, acting councillor of ward 89, says this particular project will provide shelter for people who are living in poor conditions.

Frans Langa, project community liaison officer, said as a community member who witnessed the problems which the community is faced with, he is very much appreciative of the project.

“The issue of land remains the same. People need the land and our government has listened. Through this programme, jobs are created, houses are coming and 2-in-1 problems are solved.”

Sarah Kabe, Winnie Mandela Extension Three resident, said Thembisa Ext 25 will change the face of Thembisa since it is situated at the entry point of the township.

“We always speak of township revitalisation, this will serve as that entry monument. It is closer to hospitals, malls and industrial areas. Thembisa Hospital is just behind the area, with Zamokuhle Private Hospital just across. Phumlani Mall will serve as the main shopping centre, though I believe it will be congested as it always does, mostly on month ends.”

As promised, 500 units are expected to be complete by the end of the June/July financial year.
