Rose Magaya, geography educator at Jiyana Secondary, teaches children what it means to be environmentally aware.
“The learners from the two schools participated as stewards in instilling attitude change. The programme also provided a platform for environmental organisations and activists to engage in dialogue aimed at building synergy and partnerships for ensuring a sustainable approach towards municipal solid waste management.
“Volunteers cleaned up polluted areas around the two schools and rehabilitation of illegal dumpsites around the schools was done by decorating the area using tyres and planting of trees inside the demarcated area.
“We want children to be aware of the difference they can make through everyday actions,” said Magaya.
