The British High Commission honours Lt Col Masehlele

Lt Col Edward Masehlele was responsible for coordinating Gauteng Flying Squads’ involvement in numerous repatriation escorts of foreign nationals from various embassies based in the province.

During the hard lockdown, many foreign nationals looked to various embassies based in Gauteng to secure a way home.

In a statement released by the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) communications officer W/O Grant Giblin, Lt Col Edward Masehlele was responsible for coordinating Gauteng Flying Squads’ involvement in numerous repatriation escorts of foreign nationals from various embassies based in the province.

“The purpose of these escorts was to ensure that visitors’ entries and exits are secure as courtesy escorts. This was achieved through escorts to Oliver Tambo International Airport,” Giblin stated.

He elaborated that the British High Commission in Pretoria took it upon themselves to thank Masehlele and his team in a letter for escorting over 1 200 British Nationals safely to the airport and for their great professionalism and flexibility.

“As the provincial commander of Gauteng Flying Squad, he appreciates the commendation and ensures that, as enshrined in the SAPS Code of Conduct, he and his team always strive towards improving and delivering an effective service of a high standard.”

Masehlele was presented with a plaque as a token of appreciation.
