Youngsters attend Kempton Park career expo

The expo highlighted some examples of what is available to the youth beyond secondary school.

A career expo was held on Saturday at Impact Life Church in Kempton Park.

The event was hosted by the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) Ward 91.

The expo highlighted some examples of what is available to the youth beyond secondary school.

It was also designed to assist and equip the youth with the necessary tools to succeed with tertiary education and beyond.

In attendance at the expo were MMC for Finance and Economic Development Doctor Xhakaza, actress Nozuko Ncayiyane (popularly known for her role in Scandal) and MP Collen Malatjie.

Ncayiyane was the first guest speaker; she touched on the youth breaking the cycle of poverty in their families.

“Investing in yourself may be the most profitable investment you ever make. It yields not only future returns but often a current pay-off as well. The effort you put into consistently investing in yourself plays a large role in determining the quality of your life now and in the future.

“Poverty is a personal problem, but it’s a community issue, too. No one needs to feel powerless against it because everyone can get involved in the fight. Educate yourselves as youth, keep knocking even if the doors are closed.

“Improving your skills doesn’t always mean investing in higher education, though that’s surely an option, and perhaps a necessary one depending upon your career field. Investing in your knowledge and skills can take many forms,” said Ncayiyane.

Xhakaza thanked the organisers for hosting a successful programme in helping the youth be exposed to various employment opportunities.

“It is wise for the youth to make the most of this opportunity granted to them,” said Xhakaza.
