KYD showers Panorama School with Lego box sets
“Toys that would normally be worth thousands for each set have now put us in a position to bless many learners in Kempton Park.”
On November 17, Kempton Youth Development (KYD) donated boxes of Lego toys from Denmark, to Kempton Panorama School.
The school was given 195 sets of Legos’ top-of-the-range play sets in different themes, suitable for ages five to 15.
KYD’s chairperson Caroline Gildenhuys said her NPO has for the past year-and-a-half been striving to support youth structures in the community of Kempton Park by donating and assisting local schools.
This venture in distributing Lego toys came as an opportunity where a local distributor affiliated with Lego contacted Gildenhuys and initially offered 2 000 of six-block-system sets for children.

“We identified multiple schools in town that could benefit from this contribution by donating these six-block-system sets so that learners, especially those with concentration issues, could use them throughout a school day to stimulate their concentration spans.”
However, the distributor responsible for the donations had other plans as Gildenhuys was told she would need more than just one bakkie and trailer to transport her share when she was arranging logistics to collect the six-block sets.
“Instead, Lego donated thousands of their top-of-the-line playsets which included varieties like their Star Wars edition, for example.

Moreover, Gildenhuys is also in a position to make these donations to even more schools than originally planned.
“It’s not exactly the same as the six-block-system I anticipated, but Legos can be more than just toys if used as illustrations or stimulation in an educational environment.”
Demitri Theron, the school’s principal, expressed gratitude for this donation.
“We are so honoured to be one of a handful of schools selected for this benefit and we thank Caroline for the generosity and professionalism she added along with this gift.
“We all know how expensive these playful luxuries are and with this donation, you have gifted our learners aimed at practical skills and subjects with learning aids that value up to hundreds of thousands of Rands.”
