Twenty-four intoxicated drivers arrested over the weekend

All the arrested offenders are facing charges of driving while intoxicated, adding possible reckless and negligent driving.

The EMPD led a drunken driving operation in which 24 intoxicated drivers were arrested over the weekend.

“The intersection of CR Swart Drive and Old Pretoria Road was flooded with EMPD officers between 6pm Saturday and 3am that resulted in 22 male drivers and two female motorists failing the onsite sobriety test after portable Alco meters or breathalysers were used,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for EMPD.

All the arrested offenders are facing charges of driving while intoxicated, adding possible reckless and negligent driving.

“They were escorted to Kempton Park Police Station in which a reasonable quantity of blood specimen was drawn by a professional medical practitioner,” Mokheseng stated.

He said this is an ongoing operation.

The detained suspects are set to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
