Deputy minister’s birthday celebration brings joy to youth

Nocawe Noncedo Mafu, Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, celebrated her birthday on December 5 with the less fortunate youth in Kempton Park.

Nocawe Noncedo Mafu, Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, celebrated her birthday on December 5 with the less fortunate youth in Kempton Park.

The ANC Women’s League branch also surprised the minister and ensured that the celebration brought smiles to the destitute youth in the area.

The event saw 50 young individuals taking part by showcasing their dancing, rapping and singing talents at the civic centre.

They received gift vouchers worth R500 from Checkers and were treated to a hot meal, drinks, cakes, food parcels and enjoyed motivational speakers and live entertainment.

Liliwe Mlilwana, Ward 17 ANC branch secretary and organiser of the day, partnered with the youth and amateur soccer players from a local football club to host the event.

“It’s very difficult for these children to have a source of happiness in their lives. For young children, a lot of things are very abstract. As mothers, we decided to make them feel special.”

Tumelo Lethela, an amateur soccer player, was delighted and grateful for receiving the gift voucher as he would be able to buy stationery for his matric year.
