WATCH: Orly Street festive lights offer jolly joy
This display has been the family tradition led by Athol Wright with the help of his household who have been working to erect these friendly neighbourhood sights for the past nine years.
An Orly Street resident in Bonaero Park welcomes Kemptonians with festive greetings in a multivariate display of Christmas lights and figures at his home.
On arrival, one is greeted by a motorcycling Santa Claus on the rooftop, accompanied by his alter egos on sleds with reindeers, white sparkling angels and a mighty pair of praying hands.
This display has been the family tradition led by Athol Wright with the help of his household who have been working to erect these friendly neighbourhood sights for the past nine years.
“We take time on weekends which amounts to about 40 hours in total to have all the structures ready and alight.
“Every year we like to add another edition to the flickering family on display in our front yard, as much as our personal budget allows,” Athol said.

“We always try to mix-up the display and we can’t even put an estimate on its worth since we built it up over the years. All we know is that the festive spirit it brings to the community is worth it.”
He said that despite not always encountering any spectators in person, he is comforted by the family motors driving by and just knows that children enjoy the kindling mood of flickering Christmas lights.
“Hopefully, our efforts also act as encouragement for the rest of our neighbourhood to join in and decorate their homes for the holiday season.”
Athol said their exhibition includes about 40 to 50 separate lights and figured displays, which included a self-erected light tower with a dashing star on top that reaches a height of 4,5m.
“Next year’s tower will be better and even higher.”
