Family friend charged with Birch Acres father’s murder

The son of the deceased said he had just finished matric exams when it was revealed by his mother that his father had been killed.

The murder of a Birch Acres father (65) on December 11 was followed by the arrest of a 31-year-old man who was known to the family.

The suspect was apprehended in Edenvale.

Sgt Johanna Madiga, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, said on the day of the murder the deceased’s wife (55) left their Birch Acres home at 7.35am to drop their 18-year-old son off at school.

“She later received a call from her tenant who said that there was an emergency at home. The tenant had heard a scream and saw a man running out of the house with a knife in his hand.

“The tenant went into the house and saw the husband lying on the floor in a pool of blood.”

“The victim was still breathing. Emergency services were summoned to the scene where the man died. He had sustained stab wounds.

“A woman has since also handed herself over to Norkem Park SAPS and preliminary investigations revealed that the man charged with murder is known to the family,” said Madiga.

“The two appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court and face charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder,” Madiga concluded.

According to the couple’s son, he had just finished writing his last matric exams when his mother announced the news of his father’s murder.

“When I got home that day, everything was so confusing. All that I can focus on now is to ensure that my father is buried before we proceed with anything else.”
