Teen launches her first book
Her new book, Destined for greatness, is a poetry collection.

Local author Yvonne Takalani Mokoma (18) teaches readers to master motivation, deal with life’s setbacks, as well as be inspired to face challenges.
Her new book, Destined for greatness, is a poetry collection. Takalani wanted to write a book that focuses on residents having a relationship with and faith in God and thriving through painful experiences.
“Writing is a spiritual gift. It’s a way of speaking the truth in written form.
“When I went to the South African Children’s Book Fair, I was in Grade Nine. I was inspired and that’s when I wrote an amazing poem for that occasion.
“What motivated me most was pain. Writing about it has to be one of the hardest things to do, but there’s no shame in your struggles. I lost siblings and I journaled my emotions to ease the pain. That pushed me to be a writer.

“It energises me because I believe it’s in my blood.
“I am original, although I try to write based on things happening currently. I move with the times. Each poem has a story behind it.
“Charles Hoby is one of my favourite authors. He always has a way of making me be proud of who I am and changed how I see things.”
