
An employee and customer at a jewellery shop at Festival Mall were reportedly assaulted during a business robbery at the shop on Wednesday morning.
It is alleged that a group of armed suspects entered Techno Gold and made off with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.
Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, the deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, confirmed the incident and said: “They ordered the staff to lie down, jumped over the counter and took jewellery. It is estimated they took jewelley to the approximate value of R2-million. No shots were fired and a case of business robbery is being investigated,” Ditshego.
Ditshego said the customer and employee were transported to hospital for treatment.
“The suspects fled in a silver VW Polo and headed towards the Thembisa direction,” said Lee-Anne da Silva, spokesperson at Festival Mall.
“The centre management team, security staff, store security, paramedics and the police force responded swiftly to the incident.”
Da Silva also told Express that the injured employee has a broken rib.
“The centre management of Festival Mall thanks all involved for their prompt response to the incident. The safety and security of our tenants and shoppers remain our top priority,” concluded da Silva.
