Four arrested for street armed robberies

Four suspects were arrested after allegedly robbing a police officer on February 22 in Kempton Park.
It is alleged the Kempton Park SAPS officer, who was off-duty, was walking to nearby shops when he was confronted by the suspects on the corner of Partridge Avenue and Friedman Street.
“A white VW Polo stopped in front of the officer and two men got out of the vehicle. One of the suspects pointed a firearm at the officer and demanded money and a cellphone,” said Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“The officer grabbed the suspect with the firearm and they struggled for it, two other suspects also got out from the car and helped. They managed to rob him of his cellphone and cash before getting in their vehicle and speeding off.”

The officer allegedly called his colleagues who were on duty to assist in hunting down the suspects. The vehicle was spotted on Monument Road.
“The four suspects were found inside the vehicle. Upon searching them, they found a pistol, pellet gun, 11 different cellphones and cash.
“All four were arrested and detained at the Kempton Park Police Station pending their appearances in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court.”
The suspects face charges of armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen property and pointing of a firearm.
