Edleen resident calls on motorists speeding in Okkerneut Ave

Editor – I am a resident in Okkerneut Avenue in Edleen, Kempton Park. While this road is one of the busiest roads in Edleen it also became a detour to the P91 and shopping centres.

For everyone living in this area, we as neighbours should be concerned about one another’s safety and always be on the lookout and care about life. Okkerneut Avenue has become a speeding track and almost 95 per cent of people are not adhering to the stop sign on the corner of Okkerneut Street and Carol-Anne vd Walt Avenue in Edleen.

Our grandson Ryan Seth Mark’s has a rare disease called SSPE and we need to transport him in his wheelchair for therapy on regular basis. Additionally, we transport him for normal activities. It has become a high risk trying to leave our home in attempts to avoid an accident.

When we leave our front gate, we can’t move speedily with him since we have to be extra cautious. Video footage taken shows the speed and refusal by motorists to adhere to these stop signs.

We kindly request motorists using this road to be considerate and adhere to road rules and regulations. They are there for a purpose. We also kindly request that the metropolitan police take note of this. Please let us work together and stand together as one.

Be blessed and stay blessed,
Eliza from Edleen.
