Libraries reopened from 8 March

Full library services will be reinstated only when the identified challenges associated with Covid-19 risks are resolved and the risk of infection is reduced.

Public libraries across the City opened on 8 March following months of closure. According to a statement from the City of Johannesburg Library and Information Services, all libraries will be open between the hours of 9am and 4pm from Monday to Friday for the following purposes:

  • To borrow and return library books
  • To study
  • For reference services through telephone enquiries
  • To access Wi-Fi within library parameters following strict physical distance protocols.

The following activities are not permitted:

  • Use of in-house library books
  • Use of library computers
  • Photocopy services

“Full library services will be reinstated only when identified challenges associated with Covid-19 risks are resolved and the risk of infection is reduced,” said the statement.
