WARNING: Ward 15 Clr Amanda Davison’s WhatsApp has been hacked

Community members are warned and requested to ignore any incoming WhatsApp messages from Ward 15 Clr Amanda Davison as her WhatsApp account, exclusively, has been hacked.

Davison told Express that her account was hacked in the last week when she received a message from a community resident, or so she thought.

She warned that this hacker might do the same to all the members on her WhatsApp contact list.

She said: “You might receive the following WhatsApp message from someone you know and trust, someone on a group and very likely, from my WhatsApp account.

The hacker sends a message stating: ‘Hello, I’m sorry, I sent you a 6-digit code by SMS by mistake, can you pass it to me please? lt is urgent’.”

Davison warned that the moment someone responds and send the hacker (using Davison’s WhatsApp account) the code via WhatsApp, you are kicked out of WhatsApp.

“It seems that this same message is then sent via WhatsApp to others in the same group and various others of your WhatsApp contacts ‘from you’.

The recipient, trusting you, then sends the code and also gets hacked.
“I’ve just been informed that ‘Amanda Davison added +97 154 366 0717’ to a group, but the community should know that this is not from me. It’s the hacker!!”

She appealed to the public that if this happens to anyone to urgently inform WhatsApp group admins so that the message can be deleted and the WhatsApp account blocked.

“Please ignore any WhatsApp messages from me in the timeframe of 12pm on May 6 as it is the hacker lurking behind my personal account.”

She requests that her WhatsApp account be removed from all community WhatsApp groups, and the contact/number be blocked, to counter any further malicious cyber activity.

In addition, anybody who has received suspicious messages from her is urged to inform Davison as soon as possible, along with screenshots of the messages and numbers to assist in the cybercrime investigation.

Davison can be contacted via Telegram, iMessage and SMS.

She said a case of cybercrime has been registered with the SAPS.
