Many left out in the cold after 60 shacks are destroyed in fire (video)

Community members remain desperate for shelter as the winter temperatures continue to drop.

The number of shacks destroyed in yesterday’s fire at Kaalfontein informal settlement now stands at 60.

Community members remain desperate for shelter as the winter temperatures continue to drop.

Some residents were provided shelter in containers near the settlement last night but these have no doors.

Disaster management members visited the settlement to hand out blankets to families.

Many children were unable to attend school today as they were unable to bathe.

They were only left with their school uniform to wear when the fire erupted at 3.30pm yesterday.

Families are in need of toiletries, food, clothing, blankets and building material.
