Two sentenced to 25 years for murder and kidnapping

Two suspects were convicted for murder and kidnapping.

The Johannesburg High Court sentenced two suspects to more than 20 years’ imprisonment for murder and kidnapping on May 25.

The accused, Thulani Khunou and Teddy Mohlari, were both sentenced to five years each for kidnapping and 20 years each for murder after the court found them guilty of the crimes committed in 2018.

Their convictions come after they were arrested following an argument they had with the deceased at Moedi Section on June 29, 2018.

Capt Ralidzhivha Manyadza from Thembisa Police Station said the victim was assaulted and his car was later found abandoned in Rabie Ridge with smashed windows.

The vehicle was found two days after the incident.

“A case of kidnapping and assault was opened at Thembisa South SAPS after the victim was found missing by his family members.

“A month later, on July 10, a body of an unknown person was found in the river at Motsu Section. Thembisa police opened a case of murder. The case docket was given to Det Sgt Malesela Moloantoa for further investigation. He connected all the dots until the deceased was identified and the suspects arrested.

“The case was transferred to the Johannesburg High Court for trial where the two suspects were found guilty,” said Manyadza.
