Thembisa hospital welcomes new CEO
Dr Ashley Vusi Mthunzi takes over from Dr Lekopane Mogaladi.
On July 15, the announcement of Dr Ashley Vusi Mthunzi’s appointment as the new chief executive officer for the next five years has been met with joy at Thembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital.
Mthunzi’s appointment was announced to the institution’s senior management by the Gauteng Department of Health’s MEC Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi.
Mthunzi takes over from Dr Lekopane Mogaladi.
From November 2019 to April 2020, the 43-year-old was the CEO of Pholosong Regional Hospital in Brakpan. He served as interim CEO of the Far East Rand Hospital for a brief time before taking over the Thembisa Hospital in an acting role in April.
Acting clinical director Dr Mohlamme Mathabathe and corporate services manager Lina Mmatli at Thembisa Hospital expressed their delight with Mthunzi’s appointment and expressed their optimism that he will lead the hospital to greater heights.
“We look forward to working with him in ensuring that Thembisa Hospital continues to deliver quality health services to the community,” said Mathabathe.
“We are delighted by his appointment, which will offer stability to our institution. We have promised him our entire support in his efforts to move our hospital forward,” said Mmatli.
According to Mthunzi, this is a new beginning because it will allow the institution to return to its roots.
“I am excited about the appointment. I’m looking at the new dawn of Thembisa Hospital, which is patient-centric. Thembisa Hospital must become the hospital and employer of choice. We will ensure that the highest quality of care is delivered.
“We are not newcomers to hospital administration; we have been doing it for quite some time. All we need to do now is make sure that we work as a team. I am looking forward to working with the executive, the board, organised labour and every member of the staff,” said Mthunzi.
