A man was found dead in his home in Glen Marais on November 8 and a woman, believed to be the deceased’s wife, is fighting for her life in hospital.
This was confirmed by Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, who said both were found in their Glen Erasmia Boulevard home.
“The woman was barely conscious. The man was found with his mouth wrapped with plastic. He was declared dead on the scene, while the woman had a gaping wound to the head,” Mtshali said.
“It is unclear what exactly happened. Details surrounding this case are sketchy. However, police are investigating house robbery and murder,” added Mtshali.
“There was a lot of blood inside the house and it was ransacked.”
Glen Erasmia Boulevard Homeowner’s Association (HOA) NPC has since issued a statement in response to the statement.
According to Wayne Teich, chairperson of the local HOA, there was no breach of security.
“The board of directors and management of Glen Erasmia Boulevard want to make it clear that no breach of security via any perimeter took place with regards to the incident.
“Our preliminary investigation indicates that access was granted to the suspect by the resident via internal security protocol. The suspect was a person known to the residents,” said Teich.
“The HOA conveys its condolences to all family and friends of the residents of this horrendous incident.
“The SAPS and other investigation units are investigating the incident. Therefore, no more information can be divulged that may impede the investigation.
“The board of directors and management confirm their assistance to the investigations.”
Though cases of house robbery and murder are being investigated, Mtshali told Express on November 15 an additional charge may be added.
“The investigations suggest the deceased may have been assaulted with an unknown blunt object. Hope is that the victim in the hospital may share more details as soon as she recovers from her injuries,” explained Mtshali.
“We can confirm that the Ekurhuleni North detectives are investigating house robbery and murder and more charges of attempted murder may be added.”
