Kempton hosts Miss Thembisa pageant

Mahlako Machaba was crowned the new queen of the Miss Tembisa pageant

In an exciting ceremony held at Wynand Marais Community Centre in Kempton Park, Mahlako Machaba was crowned the new Miss Thembisa.

She hopes to be a beacon of hope to the young people of Thembisa. Machaba wants to tackle a lot of social issues that concern young people of Thembisa.

She walked away with R10 000 from Mothapo Consulting (sponsor) and an MSC Business College bursary worth R25 000.

She also won jewellery from MyShiba Jewellery, a traditional evening gown from Kalahari Designs, a pampering massage from Spa on the Go and a nail voucher from House of Zeida.

“The Miss Thembisa title has opened doors for me. I can attend events that allow me to give motivational talks. This will improve my public speaking skills. This title will also allow me to attend workshops that focus on women’s empowerment. The bursary has allowed me to be empowered through education,” said Machaba.

She hopes to raise awareness of teenage pregnancy in schools.

“I will continue working with Dipalesa Foundation on its cleaning project and continue to collect clothes for the children at Tshepang Care Centre. My #Sharethedignity campaign is still an ongoing project. I collect sanitary pads and toiletries for the children at the Love of God Disability Foundation as I have previously done while I was still a finalist.

“I hope to inspire, encourage, empower and motivate the youth and children to chase after their dreams and to know that their goals and dreams are valid. I aspire to motivate both girls and boys to know that teenage pregnancy can be prevented and that their circumstances don’t define who they are,” said Machaba.

Caitlin Lubisi was crowned the first princess, Tlou Hlako the second princess, and Ria Malatji was named Miss Congeniality.

This year’s pageant was hosted by Harmony Mbele and Tintswalo Mnisi, and the red carpet hosts were Leni Netshiavhela and Bongumusa Mavuso.

Shelati Masekane, Anarzade Omar and Godfrey Mphatswe judged Miss Thembisa 2021/22 and Lehlogonolo Mabitsela audited the results.
