Members of the Kempton Park SAPS recently visited the homeless people on Casuarina Street.

The visit was part of the police’s efforts to curb the forever increasing theft out of motor vehicles and theft from motor vehicle crimes in the Kempton Park CBD area.
“The sector coordinator, Capt Shadrack Magcuntsu together with Const Mpho Sigida from the social crime-prevention unit and communications officer Sgt Dipuo Ditshego, visited the place where most of the homeless people who sleep on Casuarina Street,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“The purpose was to create a partnership with them to assist police with the information about the suspects who get involved in the commission of these crimes. It has also been established that most of the suspects that commit these crimes are homeless as just recently two suspects were arrested by the crime-prevention unit for breaking into one of the victim’s motor vehicles and stole items, such as vehicle emblems and wheel cabs.”
Mthsali added that some of the homeless people pledged to work with the police.
The police also believe that some of the homeless boys are involved in the increase of crimes such as smash-and-grab at the intersections. However, having a partnership with some who do not want to be associated with criminal activities will help curb these crimes.
“Police, in collaboration with NGOs and the Department of Social Development, invite all those willing to assist the homeless who want to be reunited with their families to visit the social crime-prevention office at the police station.”
