According to Sgt Barbara Ferreira, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, the husband is being treated for a stab wound on the palm of his hand while the wife is in a critical condition with a gunshot wound.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at around 10:00 on January 18.

At the time of the incident, the couple was with two children, aged three and 11, and their domestic worker. The domestic worker alleged the incident, which she refers to as a ‘nightmare’, started when she heard the wife, whom she refers to as ‘mama’, screaming.

The suspect was treated and transported to hospital under police guard.

“I was cleaning when I heard mama screaming, I wasn’t sure what was wrong and I went to the kitchen to check. I saw an unknown man pointing a firearm at mama,” said the distraught domestic worker.

“I then ran to the room where baba (husband) was sleeping. I woke him up and whispered that there is a man with a gun in the kitchen. He then jumped from the bed and ran out.

“I went and hid myself in the toilet.

“Soon after the gunshots, I heard mama crying and telling me she is dying, which was when I opened the door and got out.

“I saw that she had been shot and was bleeding. She then went to the car and I took the children and also got in the car with her and we drove to the police station, where they assisted her.”

The domestic worker and children were seemingly traumatised by the incident, with the 11-year-old boy scared and crying.

Ferreira added that one of the suspects was arrested, while his accomplice managed to flee the scene.

“The one suspect was injured during the shooting and sustained gunshot wounds to the leg and upper body. The husband also alleged he was stabbed on his hand during the incident by one of the suspects,” said Ferreira.

“We don’t know yet whether the suspects were travelling on foot or in a vehicle. Cases of house robbery and attempted murder are under investigation.”
