A man in his 20s was assaulted on January 11 by a crowd after they accused him of attempting to steal goods and rape a woman.
“While being assaulted, the man was transported to his home and then taken to another location where the abuse continued,” Ivory Park SAPS communications officer Capt Bernard Matimulane said.
He died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.
“Others suspected of being involved in the attack have been identified and police are on the lookout for the rest of them,” Matimulane said.
Col Baba Mpotoane, the acting station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, said mob justice will not be tolerated.
“We urge people to work with us and through the proper structures so that alleged transgressors of the law are brought to account in a lawful manner. Assaulting and beating people to death is unlawful and unacceptable,” said Mpotoane.
