Residents are advised to be vigilant at the Great North and Elgin roads intersection.

This follows recent smash-and-grabs at the hot spot.

EMPD media liaison officer Thabiso Makgato said on March 2, two unknown men grabbed items from a car before fleeing into the bushes.

Makgato said a similar incident occurred at the same intersection on March 9.

No arrests have been made so far.

She said they activated their Northern Region Task Team to patrol the intersection, but mentioned the team cannot be at the site all the time.

Makgato advised motorists to ensure their car doors are locked at all times and that valuables, such as handbags, laptops and phones, are hidden in the vehicle’s boot.

“Instead of typing or using your cellphone at intersections, rather look around and observe what’s going on around you,” advised Makgato.
