“The police are investigating these cases and, unfortunately, no suspects have been arrested,” said Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson Capt Ben Matimulane.
According to Matimulane, a 26-year-old shop owner was allegedly attacked late in the evening of April 10 by an unknown number of suspects who gained entry to the property by breaking the wall. The incident occurred in Tswelopele, Thembisa.
“Once inside, the suspects ransacked the store and took several items before setting the building alight and fleeing the scene. The store owner was declared dead when paramedics arrived,” Matimulane said.
According to Matimulane, this incident follows two other murders.
The first occurred in Kaalfontein, where an unknown man was discovered dead on April 9. Matimulane stated his identity is still unknown and that the deceased suffered head injuries.
“Another incident of a 42-year-old taxi marshal was reported along Freedom Drive, Extension Three in Ivory Park. An unknown suspect shot him several times.”
Brig David Ngcobo, station commander of Ivory Park SAPS, who was present at all three scenes, has asked the community for assistance.
“There’s a chance that one member of the public saw something, such as the identity of the killers or the vehicle they were driving. Any information can aid us in our efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Ngcobo said.
