This follows an alleged mob justice incident on June 25.
“The 40-year-old suspect was picked up by police on June 28 following a preliminary investigation into the murder.
The victim and his friend were accused of robbery and allegedly assaulted by community members at the shop,” said Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson Captain Ben Matimulane.
“One managed to escape, but the deceased, who was identified as a resident of Kaalfontein, later died,” said Matimulane.
“The community did well by catching the suspects, but they should not have assaulting the two,” said the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo who has welcomed the arrest.
He warned the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
“The community should continue to work with the police by reporting crime at all times. The problem with mob justice is that the victim becomes the suspect and eventually the prisoner,” said Ngcobo.
