Two Kempton Park lawyers fix problematic potholes

The two local business partners tire of waiting for the municipality to fix the roads.

Louis Hattingh and Hugo van der Westhuizen, business partners at Wentzel and Partners Attorneys, took road repairs into their own hands.

They recently repaired the potholes on North Rand Road that had irked motorists.

“We want to be the change we want to see by doing all we can to maintain our street and surrounds. It is an unfortunate fact that the municipality renders little to no service,” said Van der Westhuizen.

He and his business partner do not only tackle potholes because they have a permanent employee tasked exclusively with keeping the street and pavement clean by picking up litter and de-weeding.

“Our next project is to repave the pavement next to the police station to the front of the court building,” he said.

He said they realised the council is either unwilling or incapable of rendering its duties to ratepayers.

“We have taken ownership of our street and will continue to maintain it as best we can,’’ he told the Express.

In addition, he said they proposed that residents take responsibility for their immediate surroundings because waiting for the council and the municipality to do their duties would see the city further tumble into ruin.

Van der Westhuizen said municipal decay and the nationwide lack of good governance was a problem and if left unchecked, would finally break the back of the country.
