Local man honoured for turning trash into gold

Oscar achieved his award in the Environmental and Conservation Category with his upcycled drum furniture.

Kempton Park resident, Oscar Tinashe Ziwenga was named one of the honorary AfriCAN EARTHizens of 2022 at the recent AfriCAN EARTHizens’ Honorees 2023.

The second annual AfriCAN ceremony celebrated innovative ‘ecopreneurs’ with upcycled products in various industries.

Oscar achieved his award in the environmental and conservation category with his up cycled drum furniture.

Oscar is passionate about preserving the planet. He is the father of five and is described as the ‘epitome of what a conscious father should look like’.

According to event founder Anthea Thyssen, Oscar leads his family with conscious leadership skills on how to honour mother earth.

Thyssen urged residents to live conscious lifestyles and to be committed to a prosperous economy for all.

“We need to support our local creative innovators who are eco-conscious. We have to do our part to leave a planet behind for the next generation.”

Oscar designs minimalist furniture from wood and steel. His ultimate dream is to open a factory where he can teach his skills to the youth and help the youth to become independent.

At the event, Thyssen also highlighted the importance of eating natural foods, using natural products and buying local clothes to support the local economy.

She said an eco-green economy can be unlocked through conscious and responsible consumerism and daily living.

She urged schools, churches and corporate companies to start sorting trash to support ecopreneurs to produce products with their creative craftsmanship.
