Coalition demands accountability from authorities during Kempton Park picket

Organisations from across civil society, organised labour, faith-based groups and community structures gathered at the police station to deliver a petition and place their concerns before authorities.

A coalition representing civil society, organised labour, the human-rights sector, faith-based organisations and community structures gathered at Kempton Park Police Station on Friday, September 18, for a picket calling for justice, accountability and action.

Among those represented were the Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) and Black Womxn Caucus, alongside representatives from other community and civil society organisations.

The coalition used the picket to raise its concerns and formally delivered a petition outlining its demands and calling for concrete action from the relevant authorities.

The action brought together representatives from various sectors in a collective call for answers, accountability and meaningful intervention.

Organisers said the gathering reflected concerns within civil society and community structures and was intended to place their demands before the relevant authorities.

The picket took place amid heightened community concern following the discovery of several women’s bodies in and around Ekurhuleni.

The coalition also used the gathering to call for greater accountability and action from authorities in addressing concerns raised by affected communities.
