Thembisa community leader opens home to feed families in need
Thulani Skhwinyane and team dedicate their weekends to serve large numbers of community members in Thembisa.
Thulani Skhwinyane opens his home on two weekends every month to provide warm meals to hungry Tembisa community members.
Skhwinyane, who works with the Tembisa Community Forum, said the initiative gives him an unexplainable feeling of joy and fulfilment.
“The community has many issues and we are just trying to close the gap wherever we can with the little that we have,” he said.

He explained that a meal gives people something to look forward to each day, adding that the team recently bought over 150 loaves of bread to feed a growing number of children and adults.
His family, partner, Skhwinyane and sponsor Gavin, owner of Gavin Liquors.
“They always tell me that this soup kitchen is not only about me, but it’s for everyone who benefits from it,” said Skhwinyane.
This month, the team will host a fun day for local children featuring a full meal, indigenous games and jumping castles to celebrate Heritage Day.
