Police arrest 116 suspects and recover 53 vehicles and nine firearms

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in separate incidents.

Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 116 suspects, and recovered 53 motor vehicles and nine firearms between April 12 and 18.

These members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 56 arrests for serious crimes including common assault and GBH, murder, intimidation, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, business robbery, tampering with essential structure, robbery, malicious damage to property, a person in contravention of a protection order, hijacking, sexual assault, domestic violence, corruption, illegal immigrants and kidnapping.

The members also recovered 53 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, with nine arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Nine unlicensed firearms were recovered, accompanying five arrests.

In further policing, the members made 46 arrests for the possession of and dealing with drugs.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will appear in magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
