Man (61) dead, two critical following Norkem Park house robbery

The suspects fled the robbery scene with three cell phones. The two surviving victims remain in hospital in critical condition.

A 61-year-old man was murdered and two others left injured during a house robbery in Norkem Park, early this morning, June 25.

Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira said police officers were called to the scene at around 03:00.

Ferreira said that on arrival, officers found that three men had been shot.

“The father aged 61 was declared dead at the scene.

“The two other men were taken to Sunward Park and Thembisa hospitals for treatment,” said Ferreira.

According to information received the three men were woken up when three unknown men forced opened the front door to the property.

“The victims woke up and the three suspects demanded they hand over their cell phones.”

She said the suspects then fled the scene.

“During investigations, one of the cell phones was found near the house.”

“Five spent cartridges were found on the scene,” said Ferreira.

“The reason for the murder is unknown and the two surviving victims remain in critical condition in hospital,” said Ferreira.

“A case of house robbery, murder and attempted murder was opened and will be investigated.”
Lieutenant Colonel John Jones, head of detectives at Norkem Park SAPS has appealed to anyone with information to contact the station as soon as possible on 011 960 0370.
