Tragedy as girl (9) is killed in horror car crash

EMPD officers found alcohol, a powder suspected to be cocaine and 'weed edibles' in the vehicle belonging to the driver who fled the scene.

This morning, October 30, a crash on Andrew Mapheto Road claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl.

A female driver, transporting her nine-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old child, was allegedly struck by another vehicle.

The 9-year-old girl tragically succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead on the scene, while the 13-year-old sustained serious injuries and was transported to Thembisa Tertiary Hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that a 29-year-old driver fled the scene following the collision.

Thabiso Makgatho, media liaison officer for the EMPD shared details on the incident.

A case of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and fleeing the scene of an accident has been opened.

The driver’s identity has not been confirmed and will form part of a detailed police investigation.
