Three arrested, stolen vehicle and firearm recovered during crime crackdown
Officers made key arrests over four days, recovering a hijacked Audi A3, detaining a suspect linked to an armed robbery, and confiscating a firearm with removed serial numbers.
From July 10 to July 13, members of the Benoni Flying Squad arrested three suspects and recovered one motor vehicle and one firearm.
According to spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, on July 10 at around 13:55, officers on patrol in Benoni assisted a security company that had located a white Nissan Micra in O’Reilly Merry Street. The vehicle was wanted in connection with an armed robbery case in Brakpan.
The vehicle was confronted at a mall on the corner of Benoni Road and O’Reilly Merry Street.

A 44-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at Brakpan SAPS after investigations linked him to an armed robbery at a salon on Voortrekker Road, Brakpan earlier in the month.

On July 12, members participating in Operation Shanela in Thembisa arrested a 36-year-old suspect around 18:00. A 9mm Star pistol with its serial numbers filed off was recovered while searching a white Toyota Quantum in RTJ Namane Street.
That same night, officers also recovered an abandoned white Audi A3 in Ivory Park Extension 3. The vehicle had been reported hijacked in connection with a Thembisa case.
On July 13, a 43-year-old suspect was arrested on Dann Road, Kempton Park, for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Investigations are ongoing in all cases. The suspects will appear in the local Magistrate’s Courts facing charges of armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
