Teacher accused of rape appears in Kempton Park court

According to information from the GDE, the alleged incident is believed to have occurred in December 2025 when the learner was in Grade 11.

An Ivory Park Secondary School educator appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on March 13 on a charge of rape.

The 37-year-old Mathematics teacher was arrested earlier this month following allegations that he raped a learner from the school.

The case was postponed to March 17 for a formal bail hearing. He remains in custody.

According to information previously provided by the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), the alleged incident is believed to have occurred in December 2025 when the learner was in Grade 11.

The learner’s mother formally reported the matter to the school principal on March 2.

Preliminary reports indicated that the educator allegedly offered private tutoring to the learner outside official school hours at his residence, where the incident is alleged to have occurred.

It was also alleged that the learner attempted to report the incident at the school after experiencing continued inappropriate behaviour from the educator.

Gauteng MEC for Education Matome Chiloane previously said the department is deeply disturbed by the allegations and confirmed that internal processes had been initiated.

The department has also indicated that it is in contact with the learner’s family and has offered therapeutic and counselling support.
