Ekurhuleni officers arrest five in Putfontein assault case

Three women and two men were detained after allegedly attacking a victim and violating a protection order in Putfontein.

The EMPD Tracing Unit, together with Bronberg Precinct officers, arrested three women and two men, aged between 22 and 42, for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and contravention of a protection order in Putfontein on 11 March.

According to EMPD, officers received information regarding the whereabouts of three female suspects who were wanted in connection with an assault.

The victim alleged that she was walking to a nearby tavern with her sister and boyfriend when she was approached by an unknown woman.

The suspect allegedly grabbed the victim and began assaulting her.

The victim’s sister intervened and managed to stop the attack.

The group then proceeded to the tavern. Later, while the victim was walking home, she reportedly encountered the same suspect, accompanied by several other women.

Officers followed up on the information and located the suspects at their residential addresses, where they were arrested.

A male suspect wanted for contravening a protection order was also apprehended in the Putfontein area, while the final suspect was traced, located, and arrested with the assistance of investigating officers.

All five suspects were detained at the Putfontein Police Station and are expected to appear before the magistrate’s court soon.
