Rabie Ridge arrest: EMPD recovers unlicensed gun during crime operation
EMPD’s Northern Region Task Team recovered a Luger pistol and arrested a suspect linked to a murder investigation in Rabie Ridge.
Officers from the EMPD Northern Region Task Team arrested a suspect and recovered an unlicensed firearm in Rabie Ridge on March 13.
The officers were conducting routine crime prevention duties when they acted on intelligence regarding a suspect wanted in connection with a murder case. The information led them to the corner of Honeydew and Spreeu streets in Rabie Ridge.
“On arrival, members identified themselves and made enquiries about a specific individual linked to the murder investigation. A male occupant informed officers that the person in question was not present on the premises,” said EMPD media liaison officer Constable Katlego Mphahlele.

Officers then proceeded to search the premises and its occupants. During the search, one male occupant was found in possession of a black Luger pistol, along with one magazine and a live round of ammunition.
The suspect was unable to produce a valid licence for the firearm.
The 39-year-old foreign national was arrested and detained at Rabie Ridge Police Station. He faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and is expected to appear soon in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court.
