Alleged drug trafficker arrested after 60kg of khat found at OR Tambo International Airport
The alleged drug mule is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court this week on charges relating to drug trafficking.
Police at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) have intercepted a Netherlands national with 60kg of khat concealed in his luggage.
The alleged drug trafficker was set to take-off to London on Sunday morning when he was intercepted at the airport.

According to National SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, his luggage was inspected and the drugs were found inside.
Mathe said ORTIA officers have been working hard and getting breakthroughs in the fight against drug trafficking.
“This is less than 24 hours after the arrest of a Brazilian national found with cocaine worth an estimated R8.7 million at the same airport,” said Mathe.
She added that the latest arrests demonstrate the vigilance and heightened operations by SAPS working closely with Airports Company South Africa security, Border Management Authority officials and SARS customs at the port of entry.

Mathe further stated that the back to back successes in intercepting alleged drug traffickers underscores the country’s firm stance against transnational organised crime and law enforcements commitment to safeguarding South Africa’s borders.
“SAPS will continue to intensify its efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and ensure that those involved face the full might of the law,” said Mathe.
