Seven arrested in R21 pedestrian crackdown in Kempton Park

As part of the monthly operational plan, officers carried out an operation targeting pedestrians unlawfully crossing the freeway.

Officers from the EMPD Overloads Unit carried out a pedestrian enforcement operation on the R21 freeway in Kempton Park on May 22.

The operation formed part of the unit’s monthly operational plan and focused on pedestrians unlawfully crossing the freeway, which poses serious safety risks.

During the operation, seven pedestrians aged 29 to 40 were arrested and detained at Kempton Park Police Station.

They were charged for contravening Regulation 323(1)(a) of the National Road Traffic Act (NRTA), which prohibits pedestrians from being on freeways, as well as Section 49(1)(a) of the Immigration Act, Act 13 of 2002.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
