Eight suspects arrested in crackdown on theft and drug-related crimes

Police arrested eight suspects and recovered various drugs during targeted operations conducted over several days.

Benoni Flying Squad members arrested eight suspects and recovered drugs between May 18 and 23.

Media liaison officer, Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, said members received information from a security company on April 18 at around 11:00, which led to the arrest of a 52-year-old suspect at Porter Avenue, Dalview, Brakpan, for theft of a truck battery.

Seven suspects aged 23 to 43 years were arrested for drug-related offences in Derby Avenue, Brakpan, Ampthill Avenue, Benoni, as well as in Friedman, Pascoe, Long and Casuarina Streets, Kempton Park.

Crystal methamphetamine, rocks (cocaine), nyaope (heroine), Mandrax and a weighing scale were recovered in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will appear in the local Magistrate’s Courts facing charges of possession of drugs.
