The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), Intervention Unit and Community Liaison Unit (CLU) carried out targeted operations in Etwatwa, Kempton Park and Elsburg as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crime and improve community safety.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa said six male suspects, aged between 24 and 54, were arrested during the operations.

“The suspects were found in possession of illicit substances such as khat, crystal meth, rock, heroin and mandrax, with an estimated street value of R14 340,” said Thepa.

All six suspects are facing charges related to the possession and dealing of illicit substances.

The suspects were detained at various police stations across Ekurhuleni and are expected to appear in the relevant magistrates’ courts soon.
