Police seek family of homeless man found dead in Birchleigh
According to SAPS, the man, known in the area as “Chris Coolman”, had reportedly been living on the streets for some time.
Norkem Park SAPS are investigating an inquest after the body of a 66-year-old homeless man was found in Matumi Street, near the shops in Birchleigh.
“The man, known in the area as “Chris Coolman”, had reportedly been living on the streets for some time,” said Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Mkhondo.
Community members discovered his body and alerted the police. Emergency medical services (EMS) attended the scene and confirmed that he was deceased.

“The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation, and his exact cause of death has not yet been established,” said Mkhondo.
Police have so far been unable to trace the man’s family. He was reportedly known to several friends in the community, who may be able to assist police in identifying and locating his relatives.
