A man believed to be between 30 and 35 years old was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Andrew Mapheto Drive in Umthambeka, Thembisa, on August 13.

According to the EMPD, the pedestrian was struck by a minibus taxi travelling in the Harambee bus lane between the Sasol and BP garages.

The minibus taxi allegedly fled the scene following the collision.

An eyewitness managed to record the vehicle’s registration number, which may assist investigators in tracing the vehicle and its driver.

The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

The EMPD is expected to open an inquest docket, with the circumstances surrounding the collision subject to further investigation.

Motorists are urged to remain vigilant around pedestrians and to exercise caution when travelling on busy roads.
