Gauteng police have arrested a suspect linked to the murder of a woman whose body was discovered at Mooifontein Cemetery in Thembisa on Saturday morning.

Following the murder, the suspect allegedly fled to Tzaneen, Limpopo, where police apprehended him on Saturday at approximately 23:00.

The SAPS Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, commended members of Ekurhuleni District Crime Intelligence, Thembisa South detectives, the Investigative Psychology Unit, Gauteng Local Criminal Record Centre experts, and Bolobedu Police Station officers for their coordinated efforts.

“I commend this multidisciplinary team for their swift response, coordination and determination, which resulted in the apprehension of the suspect on the same day,” said Dimpane.

“This is the kind of policing we expect from our members. We will continue to pursue perpetrators of murder and gender-based violence and femicide and ensure that they face the full might of the law.”

Detectives are still investigating and tracing perpetrators linked to other women’s bodies found in Ekurhuleni, following all available leads.
